Friday – Bodnant and Home

Amazing NT gardens only a few miles from where we’re staying, and well worth a couple of hours.

And a couple of posers!

A 5 hour drive home including being stuck on the M6 for an hour or so. Ho hum. And the virus seems to be getting worse, so who knows where and when next.

Thursday – Chilling

When it’s sunny in North Wales it’s an amazing place to be. Here’s our last place:

With a terrific view from the terrace

So really just enjoyed staying local today. This was the view from the early walk above the hotel

And Lake Crafnant was as far as we ventured

Wednesday – Conwy

On the move again. View of where we stayed which was terrific apart from the worst coffee ever.

As per yesterday, had to plan ahead and book. Conwy castle looking very fine.

Believe it or not, preceded by a glorious mountain drive in bright sunlight!

And the merchant’s house. It is another theme that places have gone to incredible lengths to organise themselves to keep everyone safe. The merchant’s house is very cramped, so it was organised with volunteers and a one-way system so no mixing of people in the same room.

Well worth it.

And another glorious place to stay for the final two nights. More of that tomorrow when the sun comes out again.

Tuesday – Castles and Mountains

Talk about first-world problems (privileged class) but the new world means that just about everything has to be planned and booked ahead. Hey ho – today we had really done that with Caernarfon Castle and Snowdonia.

Guess which this is! (And the big circle on the ground is where HRH was investitured)

And then on to Snowdon – glorious drives in the sunshine.

Yup – we walked all the way ………. to the train!

Fabulous views – who knew???

Even found a friend – goodness knows what he was doing here.

And then happened upon Borth-y-Gest

Finished off with squeezing (without booking) into a brilliant restaurant in Porthmadog – a good day!

Monday 14th – A Very Warm Welcome from Wales

Bit of a surprise from North Wales – we had a bit of a heatwave today which was fabulous.

Said our farewells and moved on

And on to Criccieth

And were able to sit on the beach (found some shade!) and get ice-cream

Then on to our next place

Maps are easier than place names in this part of Wales!

An old education centre in Snowdonia that has just opened as a B&B to survive in the current climate.

Fabulous place with a room bigger than most flats! And a view from the terrace

And some terrific walks in the grounds

So there you go. Who needs Tuscany????????

Sunday – A Welsh Welcome

Just when you thought the sun might shine …

Harlech Castle looking suitably moody … but the way of the world is that you have to book in advance so off we went.

Suitably moody 😃!

Anyway, then on to Barmouth and a walk across the rickety railway and footbridge. At least it’s stopped raining.

And then Hurrah. It’s turned out nice this afternoon!

Happy!

And proof it’s a railway bridge – whilst chilling on the beach.

Couldn’t resist another quick peek at our lake.

Couple of final things:

– a lot of Welsh spoken here

– room was delightful but sooooo tiny. Probably smaller than a small caravan but fine.

12th September

Plans for Tuscany didn’t materialise after we lost our nerve, so off we go to Snowdonia. The itinerary is more determined by accommodation availability than design, but here we go.

Spotted that Powis Castle was a very convenient stopping place on the way. Had to book in advance and managed to get the time about right. And what a fantastic start to the holiday.

Then off to the middle of nowhere

To our wonderfully situated hotel

Happy holidays!

Skies in Suffolk

It’s Friday and we’re home already. No adventures but a really nice break. Plenty of sky (and enormous breakfasts)!

It was surprisingly warm enough to sit on the beach, despite the appearance.

And ice cream

And the end

1st to 4th September – Aldeburgh

It’s a funny old year, so grabbing a few days away where we can.

Staying at the White Lion in Aldeburgh and hooking up with Sheila and Alan and family in Thorpeness from time to time.

Breakfast great but far too much so need to walk it off. Not hard.

And we are on holiday …
