Valletta

We’re staying in a modern, huge, apartment block. It’s a long story, but a mixture of incompetence on my part, a labrynthian underground car park and some other mysterious gadgets meant it took 40 minutes to get back in after my morning walk. But hey – it’s a holiday.

The forecast was pretty rubbish but headed off on the ferry to Valletta.

Actually it was hardly even a light drizzle, and that was the last time we needed the brolly.

And it’s a great way to arrive in a new city.

Booked a walking tour in the afternoon so got our bearings and enjoyed Valletta. And the weather improved throughout which helped.

Noting the thickness of the City Walls – serious worries about the Ottomans attacking again.

Malta 29th March

It’s a very late Easter this year so just time to sneak in a few days away before the schools break up.

A civilised departure time means a slightly less civilised arrival time, but all went smoothly apart from leaving my phone in the car at Luton and having to rush back before the meet and greets whisked it away.

And here’s a first – from touching down to arriving where we’re staying took exactly one hour (which meant we were able to save €25 as a late check-in fee).

Staying just across from Valletta

And here it is at night.

Saturday 15th March

A few thoughts and plenty of pics before I get the overnight flight home. We’ve come over to Joe’s amazing apartment in Williamsburg.

I think I’ve smelt more Weed this week than in the whole of the rest of my life. It seems to be everywhere now it’s legal.

Had some really great evenings

Yes – that really is sprouts as a starter.

And New York has been looking spectacularly perfect for just about the whole week.

Note the long queue to have a picture by its back end. No – me neither!

Couldn’t resist this last one – that’s what I call a drinks selection.

More New York

But first the good deed

And the reward

Then more pics

And we all know the largest park, but who’s been to the smallest?

An Amazing Apartment

Jo’s colleague, Connor, is somewhere up a volcano in Costa Rica, hence I’m allowed to borrow his apartment for a week. The apartment is fine, but the rooftop is just wowee.

So we invited Hannah and Sarah for a wonderful evening.

Monday

Certainly very lucky so far with the weather. It’s heating up.

Headed off through Central Park – very familiar and now resisting (not entirely successfully) taking photos that I’ve done many times before.

Found myself at the Apple Store on Madison Avenue, and took the opportunity to get an appointment at the Genius Bar to get the fluff cleaned out of my phone. Reckon they must be some of the coolest dudes on the planet but they were very kind and not too patronising to an old duffer like me.

But it is a cool store.

New angle on a photo opportunity

Saw by accident the pizza place Jo hard found on our mammoth trek in December and couldn’t resist the mac’n cheese pizza again.

And a Comedy Store in the West Village – packed on a Monday night.

New York in 3 Moves

Move 1

Get your walking boots on.

Move 2

Bump into an old friend again.

Move 3

Enjoy an excellent lunch (Greek, in Chinatown) with great company.

And back on the subway.

New York

A ridiculously short time at home before going out to see Jo (and New York) again.

Rainy Days – Tactics

First of all, it snowed on Sunday night!

Number 1 – Monday

Forecast looks doubtful after about 10.00, so decide to stay and enjoy the sun in the beautiful garden. Still enjoying about 2.00, so just head out for a bit of a diversion.

And it stays lovely all day.

Number 2 – Tuesday

It’s raining pretty much from the off, so drive over the mountains from the North to the West. What a great idea!

Realised it’s where we stayed 3 years ago but we’d forgotten!

And a final evening in our favourite bar
