But not with a bang – it was a very gentle landing.
I forgot to mention a couple of things yesterday:
– I hadn’t ever thought about it, but the Grand Canyon is at 7,000 feet
– despite hanging around for an hour last night, the sunset was pathetic. And it got rather chilly.
We headed out East today. Again, the accessibility is incredible – you drive for about 25 miles along the rim, with various parking lots (note the lingo :o) within a few paces of more fabulous views. So yet again, here is another fabulous selection.
That’s it. Done. Then headed towards Cameron – an old Navajo trading post…
… With some Navajo bling …
… and then off into the desert. It’s how we imagined driving in America – interminable straight roads, cruise control at 65 and just stay awake!
With occasional stoping off points which don’t really do it justice (seems to be a recurring theme – poor photographer?):
Also we didn’t show what seemed to us to look like pretty poor living conditions and hamlets in the middle of nowhere.
Thence to Page – bit of a disappointment, although Horseshoe Bend was most definitely worth a short detour – can you believe it we had to walk almost half a mile to get these shots of the Colorado.
And no safety fences …..
