Saturday 15th March

A few thoughts and plenty of pics before I get the overnight flight home. We’ve come over to Joe’s amazing apartment in Williamsburg.

I think I’ve smelt more Weed this week than in the whole of the rest of my life. It seems to be everywhere now it’s legal.

Had some really great evenings

Yes – that really is sprouts as a starter.

And New York has been looking spectacularly perfect for just about the whole week.

Note the long queue to have a picture by its back end. No – me neither!

Couldn’t resist this last one – that’s what I call a drinks selection.

More New York

But first the good deed

And the reward

Then more pics

And we all know the largest park, but who’s been to the smallest?

An Amazing Apartment

Jo’s colleague, Connor, is somewhere up a volcano in Costa Rica, hence I’m allowed to borrow his apartment for a week. The apartment is fine, but the rooftop is just wowee.

So we invited Hannah and Sarah for a wonderful evening.

Monday

Certainly very lucky so far with the weather. It’s heating up.

Headed off through Central Park – very familiar and now resisting (not entirely successfully) taking photos that I’ve done many times before.

Found myself at the Apple Store on Madison Avenue, and took the opportunity to get an appointment at the Genius Bar to get the fluff cleaned out of my phone. Reckon they must be some of the coolest dudes on the planet but they were very kind and not too patronising to an old duffer like me.

But it is a cool store.

New angle on a photo opportunity

Saw by accident the pizza place Jo hard found on our mammoth trek in December and couldn’t resist the mac’n cheese pizza again.

And a Comedy Store in the West Village – packed on a Monday night.

New York in 3 Moves

Move 1

Get your walking boots on.

Move 2

Bump into an old friend again.

Move 3

Enjoy an excellent lunch (Greek, in Chinatown) with great company.

And back on the subway.

New York

A ridiculously short time at home before going out to see Jo (and New York) again.

The End

And here’s a highlight

Seemed the least I could do after an amazing week – so headed off to the launderette. Coming back I reckon it weighed close to 15kg – bit like a medium suitcase – and 3 flights of stairs was quite a workout. I can see why it’s Jo’s least favourite activity, especially when it’s 30 degrees as well!

Last coffee

Then a final catch up with another old friend

And a pretty easy trip back – 150mph tailwind meant only a 6 hour flight.

Monday

Here goes

Early morning

Gracie Mansion (The Mayor’s House)

Meeting an old friend again

Midtown

Sunday

I don’t think there’s going to be much more to be said, apart from

  • New York is a terrific city to walk around
  • I like walking
  • New York is very photogenic
  • The weather is brilliant – crisp and clear.

So here goes:

Met up for Brunch after a spinning class in East Village/Noho

And lots of other views
