Monday

Certainly very lucky so far with the weather. It’s heating up.

Headed off through Central Park – very familiar and now resisting (not entirely successfully) taking photos that I’ve done many times before.

Found myself at the Apple Store on Madison Avenue, and took the opportunity to get an appointment at the Genius Bar to get the fluff cleaned out of my phone. Reckon they must be some of the coolest dudes on the planet but they were very kind and not too patronising to an old duffer like me.

But it is a cool store.

New angle on a photo opportunity

Saw by accident the pizza place Jo hard found on our mammoth trek in December and couldn’t resist the mac’n cheese pizza again.

And a Comedy Store in the West Village – packed on a Monday night.

New York in 3 Moves

Move 1

Get your walking boots on.

Move 2

Bump into an old friend again.

Move 3

Enjoy an excellent lunch (Greek, in Chinatown) with great company.

And back on the subway.

New York

A ridiculously short time at home before going out to see Jo (and New York) again.

Rainy Days – Tactics

First of all, it snowed on Sunday night!

Number 1 – Monday

Forecast looks doubtful after about 10.00, so decide to stay and enjoy the sun in the beautiful garden. Still enjoying about 2.00, so just head out for a bit of a diversion.

And it stays lovely all day.

Number 2 – Tuesday

It’s raining pretty much from the off, so drive over the mountains from the North to the West. What a great idea!

Realised it’s where we stayed 3 years ago but we’d forgotten!

And a final evening in our favourite bar

Very Familiar

We reckon it’s the sixth time we’ve been to this part of Tenerife (although you have to count a couple pre-bog). So we know our way around and just enjoying the wonderful views. I reckon more to come over the next few days.

Wednesday 26 Feb

Weather has been rubbish so a few days ago we booked a week in Tenerife (as you do). It’s a fair guess that there’s not going to be much to report.

Nice little apartment (very close to where we were last year)

Dinner at our favourite little beach

Enjoying coffee and breakfast

Monday 10 February

22 hours door to door. Most amazing thing is that we both slept on the plane – Eileen reckons she might have got as much as 5 or 6 hours which is extraordinary. So trip back went like a dream – in fact whole trip was really easy.

Mekong Delta

Now it’s Saturday night, and our last night in Vietnam after more than 3 weeks. Really looking forward to the 14 hour flight departing at midnight tomorrow.

But before that we booked on our final guided tour today. Neither us was overly keen (did I mention it’s 32 degrees and humid??), but what a fantastic way to end.

Yes – that’s me driving the boat. And no, that’s not Eileen driving the moped!

Then just lots of lovely pictures from the Mekong River.

Cacao – the white bit around the bean is surprisingly sweet.

All the boats have eyes to ward off the river monsters.

Last Move

It’s Friday, and we’re into the final countdown before we fly home on Sunday evening. But a couple of observations:

  • What is it with Vietnamese karaoke??? It’s everywhere, although we’re assured it’s because of Tet. But not only is it loud, it is soooooo bad. And invariably in a bar with only 2 or 3 people. Fortunately they seem to give up quite early, but it really has been everywhere.
  • A huge shout out for Yennie at the Mekong Pottery HomeStay. She was a wonderful person to talk to, highly intelligent and English better than any foreign speaker we have ever come across. And such interesting insights about Vietnam culture and family, and a huge curiosity about Europe and the UK. She seems to be a great businesswoman and still only 29.

Now right in the heart of the Mekong Delta at another wonderful HomeStay.

And the only other people staying are Louise and Nils from Copenhagen so we can practice our Danish!
